Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is No Vision, the people perish.” (KJV) Translated from the Hebrew, “where there is no vision, prophecy, or revelation from God, the people cast off restraint, wander aimlessly, because they have no leadership.” That means without a vision, or purpose, we, as Christians, Churches, or an association, drift and wander aimlessly, not accomplishing the purpose for which God has called us. The Center for Baptist Heritage & Studies announces its 2010 Roots & Wings Young Scholars Essay Contest. The theme is “Peace-bearers for the World in Which We Live.” The contest is open to all 11th and 12th grade high school students who attend a Baptist church in Virginia. The purpose is to promote a better understanding of Baptist and Christian heritage and to encourage our young people to express their ideas. Our tag line is “remembering the past...imagining the future,” and the essay incorporates both concepts. Three winners may be chosen. Three awards may be presented. A donor has supplied to the Heritage Center the funds to grant awards in the amount of $500 for first place, $300 for second place, and $200 for third place. Go to the Heritage Center’s website, www.baptistheritage.org, and click on Essay Contest to all the details. The deadline for submissions is April 15.
