Core Values

The following Core Values presented by the Self-Study Team were approved by the Executive Board at the meeting on April 20, 2010, and will be presented for adoption at the SBA Annual Meeting on Monday, October 25, 2010, at Bedford Baptist Church. As a Network of Churches, the Strawberry Baptist Association is Committed to Cooperating with fellow Baptist churches on the basis of these Core Values:
1. We believe the Bible is God’s Holy Word inspired by the Holy Spirit. It is our guide, final authority, source of unity, and motivation for service to the honor and glory of God. 2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Peter 1:19-21.
2. Salvation is the gift of God’s grace through faith. It is accomplished once and for all by the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ on the cross and resurrection from the dead. John 3:16; Romans 1:1-6; Eph 2:8-9.
3. We are commanded by God in the Great Commission to take the gospel message to our neighborhoods, cities, nation, and the world. Matt 28:18-20, Acts 1:8.
4. The visible result of our obedience to the Great Commission is the growth of our local autonomous Baptist churches distinguished by Believer’s Baptism by immersion and a commitment to the Word of God. Acts 2:38, Ephesians 4:1-6, Hebrews 10:25.
5. Being convicted that Kingdom work is bigger than any single church, we recognize the need to cooperate and fellowship with like-minded Baptist churches in pursuit of a unified witness to our local communities. Acts 2:41-46; 2 Cor. 9:6-8.
In accordance with these Core Values, every church may pursue external relationships that will not impact the ability of our churches to work together.

The Baptist Association:
Each church on the forward edge of the Great Commission; and churches working together for even greater Impact.

Associational Missions Week Emphasis
May 16-23, 2010
(or anytime your church chooses)
Offering goal: “One Dollar Per Day for Seven Days”

In addition to your prayers, we are asking our churches to
promote this year’s Association Missions Week just as we have in the past, challenging folk to set aside just one dollar a day for seven days. Remind one another how important this offering is to our work and also how easy it is to come up with just one dollar a day. Give up a soft drink, coffee, snack, or a gallon of gasoline a day, and you’re there! The impact on this Association of that one dollar when combined with the dollar
many others will share is tremendous. Thanks for standing together in this challenge.

FYI

Care about peace? Where and how does peace begin? Can Baptists be peacebearers? Peace-bearers is the theme of
the annual meeting of the Virginia Baptist Historical Society set for 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 18, at Second Baptist Church of Richmond. Addresses will be given on peacebearers in Baptist history and contemporary peace issues. For further information visit www.baptistheritage.org.
