ESL Workshop & Outreach

The ESL ministry of Strawberry Baptist Association is off to a great start! The purpose of the ESL ministry is to demonstrate and express love for Christ through meeting the needs of people in our communities who want to learn to speak English fluently.

Knowing the need Hispanics and other language groups have in our area, 23 individuals from our association and other areas participated in a 16-hour workshop which trained them to teach English as a second language. The workshop was led by Dorryce Rudd, Mission Resource Specialist of the Virginia Baptist Mission Board.

How to Develop A Youth Ministry (Part 5)
Special Needs of Young People
Psycho-social needs:
Children are very short-sighted. Their world revolves around their parents and other family members who have met all of their needs. The world at large is almost invisible to the small child who depends upon those in the home to bring into focus everything around him. The parents make all decisions for the child and from within this environment he learns moral values and life skills.

New Church Update

God is doing amazing things as He is bringing together the people and resources needed for this new church in the Forest area. First, I want to thank each individual and church in the Strawberry Baptist Association for your prayers, encouragement, and financial support. "I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy for your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now...." (Philippians 1:3-6)

Seeds of Hope in Liberia!
Virginia Baptists are partnering with Liberian Baptists in a unique way. The civil war which ravaged the country for ten years has left every city and village without electricity and running water. All mechanized farm equipment has been destroyed, so farming is done with shovel and hoe. The entire livestock supply was butchered for quick meat. These events left the people of Liberia impoverished. Yet their spirits remain high because of friends like Virginia Baptists.

Congratulations to Rick, Laura, Andy, Sam, and Rachel Mallory on the addition of a baby boy to their family. Daniel was born Wednesday morning, February 27, weighing 7 lbs., 10 3/4 ozs., and measuring 21 inches long.

2001 Alma Hunt Offering

Virginia Baptists contributed over 964 thousand dollars to the 2001 Alma Hunt Offering for Virginia Missions. Recently SBA received a check from the Virginia Baptist Resource Center for $683.75 which is our share of the amount that was designated for associations. Thanks for your support!

SBA's Mission

Under the Lordship of Christ, to equip, support, and involve our family of churches in meeting the spiritual and physical needs of a changing community and world.

Please have items for the April newsletter written and in the associational office by Thursday, March 21.
